Clyde Iron Cup up for grabs
Defending champion Green Bay, runner-up Sioux City and two other United States Hockey League teams, Tri-City and Lincoln, will play for the Clyde Iron Cup on Sept. 14-15 at the Heritage Center.
The Lincoln Stars and Tri-City Storm meet at 3 p.m. Sept. 14, followed by a "Guns 'n Hoses" charity event between the Duluth police and fire departments. That event raises funds for the Northern Lights Foundation, a Northland group whose mission is to address needs of youth faced with life-threatening illnesses. Sioux City and Green Bay will play at 8. All net proceeds will benefit Northern Lights.
Sioux City is coached by former Minnesota Duluth player and assistant Brett Larson and by Duluth East graduate Mark Abalan. Former Hermantown standouts Jared Thomas, who has committed to UMD, and Jared Kolquist play for the Musketeers.
Duluth East graduate Trevor Olson plays for the Gamblers.
