The Duluth Huskies snapped a three-game losing streak Wednesday with a 5-2 win over the Eau Claire Express in Northwoods League play at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wis.
Terrin Vavra’s RBI double in the second inning put the Huskies on the scoreboard while a three-run homer by Elliot Barzilli in the seventh inning put the Huskies ahead 5-1.
Vavra, the Huskies shortstop, finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while Barzilli, the third baseman, went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored.
The Huskies also got plenty of offensive production from Minnesota Duluth first baseman Alex Wojciechowski, who went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Right fielder Jean Figueroa went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Duluth starter Mitchell Bauer improved to 5-1 by striking out three and walking four in four-plus innings. He gave up one run on five hits. Eric Morell, pitching the sixth, seventh and eighth innings in relief, struck out four, walked one and gave up no runs on four hits.
The Huskies begin their second-to-last series of the regular season today with a 7:05 p.m. contest in Willmar.
