John Twichell's 10th-inning home run lifted the Mankato MoonDogs to a 4-3 victory over the Duluth Huskies in a Northwoods League game played Friday night in front of 1,438 fans in Mankato.
The Huskies led 3-0 in the top of the third inning, but Mankato scored single runs in the third, fifth and eighth innings to set up Twichell's extra-inning heroics.
Clay Chapman started for Duluth and pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs and five hits while walking one and striking out six. Josh Bornstein and Max Schuh gave up the game-tying and winning runs.
Designated hitter Josh Alexander and third baseman Jered Meek each collected two hits for the Huskies, who complete their two-game set with Mankato today at 7:05 p.m.
Chapman, outfielder Keith Curcio and pitcher Nate Carter all earned spots in the upcoming Northwoods League All-Star Game, slated for 7:35 p.m. July 23 at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wis. All three Huskies All-Star selections are from Florida Southern University.
