Mercifully, the first half of the Northwoods League season came to a close Monday night for the Duluth Huskies, who fell 5-4 in 10 innings to the host Thunder Bay Border Cats in front of 1,332 fans.
The Huskies lost despite Thunder Bay committing five errors - three by shortstop Ty Blankmeyer - and stranding 12 runners on base.
Four players had two hits for Duluth, which ended the first half 9-27 and in last place in the North Division. The Huskies scored two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to force extra innings, but Thunder Bay wasted little time in scoring the game-winner.
Duluth, which advanced to the Northwoods League championship series in 2013, is off today before starting the second half Wednesday at Rochester.
