The Bismarck Bobcats held off the Minnesota Wilderness to win 5-3 in the opening game of a best-of-five North American Hockey League series Friday night in Bismarck, North Dakota.

The Wilderness nearly overcame a three-goal deficit in the third period as Donte Lawson and Gavin Rasmussen scored goals before Ben Troumbly, Lawson’s former Greenway teammate, secured the victory with a goal at 11:44.

Game 2 is Saturday night in Bismarck.

Grant Docter, the Wilderness’ leading scorer in the regular season with 18 goals and 40 points, had Minnesota’s other goal.

Wilderness goaltender Jacob Zacharewicz stopped 42 shots, while Bismarck’s Cameron Korpi made 24 saves.
