St. Scholastica women’s hockey coach Jackie MacMillan was named NCHA Coach of the Year and Lisa LaRoche was named Freshman of the Year as all-conference awards were announced Tuesday.
It is MacMillan’s second such honor in the past three seasons. She guided the Saints to their first NCHA regular-season championship with an 8-0 mark in the shortened season, the program’s last in the NCHA. CSS set program records for most consecutive wins (14) in advancing to its third straight NCHA Slaats Cup Finals appearance.
LaRoche, a first-year defenseman from Minnetonka, Minnesota, became the program’s first and ultimately only NCHA Freshman of the Year as she played a key role in the Saints finishing second in the league with a 1.12 goals-against average in conference play. She was also 11th in scoring, with 10 points on five goals and five assists.
In addition to LaRoche, four CSS players were named all-conference: goaltender Lori Huseby (Babbitt/Northeast Range) and forwards Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minnesota) and Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minnesota). In addition, LaRoche was joined on the NCHA All-Freshman Team by forward Allie Bussey of Hibbing, who led all NCHA first-year players with 11 points, with her seven goals tied for third among NCHA players.
