Denisa Jandova had the 24-save shutout as unbeaten Adrian handed St. Scholastica its first loss of the season with a 3-0 victory in Game 1 of their NCHA Slaats Cup Championship series Friday night in women's hockey at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.
Karmen Anderson set the tone early by scoring just 24 seconds into the game for Adrian. Teammate Jocelin Hudanish added a goal later in the period and Jessica VonRuden added another insurance goal just 41 seconds into the third for the Bulldogs (19-0-1).
That was more than enough offense for Jandova, a junior from the Czech Republic, as she stopped 11 shots in the first, seven in the second and six in the third. That snapped CSS's program record winning streak at 14 games. Jandova has now shut out the Saints in three of the last four meetings.
Senior goalie Lori Huseby (11-1) of Babbitt had 33 saves to lead the Saints (14-1). The teams combined to go 0 of 9 on the power play.
The same teams rematch at 5 p.m. today at Mars Lakeview Arena for the championship, with an if-necessary mini-game to follow should CSS win.
