Former Duluth East standout Garrett Worth announced Friday via Twitter that he has committed to play hockey at Long Island University.

Worth, who was named the News Tribune’s All-Area Player of the Year in 2018 after leading Minnesota with 47 goals, played with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the United States Hockey League and the Minnesota Wilderness of the North American Hockey League during the 2019-20 season. He scored 14 goals and had 25 points for the Cloquet-based Wilderness.

Worth had previously committed to Arizona State following his senior season at East. He then spent one season in the British Columbia Hockey League before splitting time in junior hockey a year ago.

Thank you to my family, friends, and coaches for everything you have done for me,” Worth tweeted.

Long Island University is a new Division I program whose creation was announced during the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown. Brett Riley was announced as the new coach last month.
