Wisconsin-Superior senior forward Kaleigh Martinson and Norwich senior forward Sophie McGovern of Hermantown were named American Hockey Coaches Association Women's Division III All-Americans on Thursday.
Martinson, of Dayton, Ohio, was a first-team selection in the West. She is the 14th All-American for the Yellowjackets and 12th to land on the first team. The four-time All-WIAC selection posted a 0.96 goals per game average, which was second in the nation. She led the Yellowjackets in scoring with 26 goals and 10 assists. Her four shorthanded goals tied for tops in the country.
McGovern was a second-team pick in the East. She posted 19 goals and 25 assists for eighth-ranked Norwich. Her 1.52 points per game average that ranked seventh in Div. III and her 0.86 assists per game average ranked 10th in the nation. Her college career came to an abrupt halt after a 3-1 victory at Amherst.
McGovern and the Cadets, who won the New England Hockey Conference regular and postseason titles, were scheduled to play at No. 1 Plattsburgh in the NCAA quarterfinals on March 14 before the rest of the tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
