Wisconsin-Superior pieced together a two-goal lead through two periods, then unloaded with three goals in the third to defeat Northland 5-1 on Saturday.

UWS' Kaleigh Martinson scored at 4:42 of the first period and 13:58 of the second. The Yellowjackets' Cassie McClure scored at 2:32 of the third and, after Northland broke the shutout with a goal, Molly Shelton scored twice — at 10:51 and 13:00 — to put the game out of reach.

Martinson also had two assists and UWS goalie McKenzie Whalen stopped 27 shots. The Yellowjackets (16-7-1) play in the WIAC Championship at Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday and Saturday. Game times have not been announced.

  • Rachel Anderson and Abby Pohlkamp both scored twice and St. Scholastica defeated Marian 5-1 on Saturday.

After a scoreless first period, Anderson and Mariah Haedrich scored about three minutes apart in the second for a 2-0 lead. After Marian scored to halve the lead, Anderson and Pohlkamp scored 44 seconds apart to make it 4-1. Pohlkamp added an empty net goal.

Dylan Johnson scored on the power play at 4:44 of overtime as Wisconsin-Superior defeated Northland 4-3 and swept two games in the first round of the WIAC's Commissioner's Cup on Saturday. UWS won 6-3 on Friday.

The teams split four first-period goals, with UWS' Chad Lopez scoring at 6:31 and Coltyn Bates scoring at 11:25. The Yellowjackets' Bruno Birzitis scored the go-ahead goal at 11:50 of the second but Northland's Kyle Pouncy scored at 14:43 of the third to force overtime.

UWS' Oscar Svensson made 29 saves.

  • Nolan Ross scored two third-period goals and Davis Ross and Parker Colley both scored in the period as Marian defeated St. Scholastica 4-1 on Saturday.

Kyle Star notched the Saints' lone goal at 6:48 of the third on assists from Brent Jones and Mike Nolan. Saints goalie Zane Steeves made 49 stops.
