St. Scholastica opens the NCHA Harris Cup playoffs on Friday night with a series against Marian University in Fond du Lac, Wis.
The Saints (8-16-1) finished fourth in the North Division, barely qualifying for the playoffs, while Marian (17-7-1) won the division by two points over St. Norbert.
The Sabres swept the Saints 5-1 and 6-2 during the regular season to stretch their series win streak to 11.
Saints senior goaltender Zach Steeves (2.51 goals-against average,.921 save percentage) recently returned to spark a three-game win streak after missing eight games due to injury. Junior Carson Rose (11 goals, 6 assists, 17 points) leads the team in scoring.
Game 1 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, with the second game at 4 p.m. Saturday. If the teams split or tie both games, a 20-minute minigame will be held to determine which team advances to the semifinals.
Wisconsin-Superior hosts Northland College in a two-game WIAC Commissioner’s Cup first-round playoff series Friday and Saturday at Wessman Arena. Opening faceoff is 7:05 p.m. each night.
The Yellowjackets (14-8-3) won all three regular-season meetings with Northland (4-20-1) en route to finishing third in the conference.
Troy York (13-11—24) leads UWS in scoring, followed closely by Dylan Johnson (11-11—22) and Chad Lopez (7-15—22), while Oscar Svensson (1.98, .932) and Myles Hector (2.54, .905) split time in net.
