Amanda Sergent and Kaleigh Martinson scored third period goals to break and deadlock and provide insurance as Wisconsin-Superior outlasted St. Catherine 5-4 on Saturday in St. Paul.

The Yellowjackets took a 2-0 lead in the first and Sergent's first goal of the game gave them a 3-1 lead in the second. St. Catherine rallied to tie with two goals in the first six minutes of the third period.

Martinson also scored twice and also had an assist and Amber Heidenreich scored the 'Jackets' other goal. Molly Shelton had two assists.

The Yellowjackets (7-1-1) play next at Gustavus on Jan. 10.

  • The Wisconsin-Superior men's team followed up a Friday win over Northland with a resounding 7-0 win in the second game of the series on Saturday in Superior.

Troy York scored two goals and Lawson McDonald, Andrew Dunham, Troy MacTavish, Pavel Mikhasenok and Dylan Johnson also scored Yellowjacket goals. Jordan Martin and Liam Blais both had two assists and goalie Oscar Svensson stopped 22 shots.

The Yellowjackets (8-2) are off until taking on Bethel-Marian in the first game of the Superior Showdown Dec. 28-29 at Wessman Arena.
