No. 10 Minnesota pushed the top-ranked Wisconsin Badgers on the road but fell 4-3 on Friday in Madison, Wis.
Tied 2-2 after two periods, the Badger's Abby Roque scored the go-ahead goal at 5:43 of the third. UMD tied the game 3-3 when Sydney Brodt found Anna Klein for a goal at 17:22. but Roque assisted on Alexis Mauerman's game-winner at 18:45 of the third period.
The scoring came fast and furious in the opening period and neither team held a lead for long. Roque scored the first of her two goals at 1:10 of the first, and UMD's McKenzie Hewett tied the game a minute later on assists from Brooklyn Schugel and Maggie Flaherty.
Klein scored the first of her two goals at 5:48 of the first on assists from Kylie Hanley and Flaherty to put UMD up 2-1, but Wisconsin's Daryl Watts tied the game with a goal 30 seconds after Klein's goal.
Roque finished with two goals and two assists. Klein had two goals and Flaherty had two assists.
The teams play the second game of the series at 7:07 p.m. Saturday in Madison.

St. Scholastica's Mariah Haedrich and Greta Nundahl scored second-period goals and Saints goalie L Huseby turned back 19 shots in a 2-1 over St. Norbert on Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Haedrich scored at 7:50 of the second on an assist from Taylor Murray. Hundahl made it 2-0 with help from Sam Gorecki and Abby Pohlkamp at 16:01. Letti Stafford pulled St. Norbert within one at 18:35 of the second.
The teams play the second game of their series at 5 p.m. Saturday at Mars Lakeview.
St. Scholastica 3, Adrian 2
The St. Scholastica men's team pulled off an upset win over No. 6-ranked Adrian on Friday, with three different players scoring and goalie Zach Steeves making 50 saves in a 3-2 victory in Adrian, Mich.
Down 1-0 after one period, CSS' Dustin Cordeiro tied the game at 5:44 of the second on assists from Tyler Hinterser and Karl Wright. Nate Pionk gave the Saints the lead with a goal at 12:21 of the second on an assist from Isaac Kobienia.
CSS' Carson Rose scored unassisted 5:43 of the third period for a two-goal margin, which came in handy with the Bulldogs scoring at 19:09 of the third.
The Saints (4-5-1) and the Bulldogs (6-2-1) play again at 2:05 p.m. Saturday.
Wis.-Superior 5, Wis.-River Falls 2
A three-goal second period lifted Wisconsin-Superior to a 5-2 win over Wisconsin-River Falls on Friday in River Falls.
UWS' Jordan Martin scored two goals and Will Blake, Levi Cudmore and Andrew Durham also scored goals for the Yellowjackets.
Jonny Pace had three assists and Durham capped his three-point night with two assists. Cudmore and Blake also had assists and Dylan Johnson also had a helper.
'Jackets goal Oscar Svensson stopped 23 shots.
The Yellowjackets travel to play at Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 7 p.m. Saturday.
