Minnesota Duluth scored five unanswered goals, including three in the third period, run away from UConn 5-1 on Saturday in the consolation game of Quinnipiac’s Nutmeg Classic in Hamden, Conn.
Senior forward and co-captain Sydney Brodt scored twice, including the game-winning goal with 1:24 remaining in the second period. She struck again 3:48 into the third.
Sophomore forward Kylie Hanley finished with three points assisting on both of Brodt’s goals and scoring the fifth.
Junior defenseman Ashton Bell tied the game in the second after UMD fell behind 1-0 in the first. Sophomore defenseman Kailee Skinner picked up her first goal of the season in the third.
Sophomore goaltender Emma Soderberg got her first start of the season for the Bulldogs and finished with 34 saves.
UMD closes out the 2019 portion of their schedule next week with a WCHA series at Wisconsin before taking three weeks off prior to the Minnesota Cup Jan. 4-5 at Amsoil Arena.
