Women's hockey: US edges Canada
Annie Pankowski scored the game-winning goal and Alex Rigsby made 31 saves as the United States beat Canada 3-2 in an IIHF Women's World Championship preliminary game Saturday at Espoo, Finland.
Hilary Knight and Kendall Coyne Schofield also scored goals for the U.S., which improved to 2-0 in pool play.
Rigsby, a former University of Wisconsin goaltender, played in net for the second game in a row instead of Minnesota Duluth junior Maddie Rooney, who beat Canada in the 2018 Winter Olympics gold-medal game.
UMD junior Sydney Brodt is also on the U.S. team.
Brigette Lacquette, a former UMD player, had two assists for Canada.
