College men's hockey: UMD's Herter earns promotion

Jason Herter, who is in his eighth season with the Minnesota Duluth men's hockey staff, has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach by head coach Scott Sandelin, it was announced Wednesday.

Since enlisting his services with the Bulldogs, Herter has been part of one NCAA champion (2018), five NCAA Division I tournament participants (2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and one NCHC Frozen Faceoff winner.

Herter, who in 2015-16 began a term on College Hockey, Inc.'s Board of Directors, oversees the UMD penalty-kill unit, assists with power-play strategies and recruits potential players.
