Hill is Northland's king of the hill

Tyler Hill won the first hole Sunday and never trailed in defeating Jack Gustafson 4 and 3 in the match-play final of the 92nd annual Northland Invitational at Northland Country Club.

Tyler Hill won the first hole Sunday and never trailed in defeating Jack Gustafson 4 and 3 in the match-play final of the 92nd annual Northland Invitational at Northland Country Club.

Hill maintained his 1-up lead after the front nine and then rolled in a 25-foot putt on the 10th hole and birdied No. 13 to take a three-hole lead.

Gustafson, who eliminated Brian Moores in the morning semifinal, lipped out a birdie putt at No. 14 and lipped out a par putt on the following hole to end the match.

Hill downed 2015 champion Topher Baron in the semifinals.

Tim Ertmer beat Dave Steingart 2 and 1 to capture the seniors title.
