Hermantown softball star Megan Mullen and three others have signed national letters of intent to play at the University of Minnesota Duluth beginning in the 2010-11 school year, the university said in a news release today.
Mullen, a senior and reigning two-time News Tribune All-Area player of the year, pitched the Hawks to a Class AA state championship last season. She had 283 strikeouts in 171 innings in her junior season.
"Megan's the all-around package and will be a great asset to our program," Bulldogs coach Jen Banford said. "She's a mentally tough pitcher who is extremely poised and confident on the mound. It is terrific to have a local player of Megan's caliber joining us."
The Bulldogs also signed Dani Laderstrom, a catcher and infielder from New Richmond, Wis.; and teammates Maddie Bilse, an infielder and outfielder, and Brooke Neuroth, an infielder, from Eden Prairie, Minn.
