Cloquet finished with a flourish Wednesday at the Class AA high school boys golf state tournament, shooting the day's second-best score to finish third overall, just one stroke out of second place.
The Lumberjacks totaled 316 shots on the second day of the tournament at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan and 641 overall.
Keegan Poppenberg of Cloquet was the Northland's top finisher, tying for 16th with a 156 total.
In Class A at Pebble Creek in Becker, North Woods' Sam Frazee tied for 11th with a 161 total for 36 holes as the Grizzlies placed sixth in the team competition.
In the girls state tournament, Eveleth-Gilbert's Taya Kwiatkowski rose to 10th in the Class AA meet, finishing with 161 shots. International Falls was fifth in the team event.
The North Woods girls placed fifth in Class A, led by Nicole Olson's seventh-place finish at 173.
