Superior girls golf team ran into a hot Hayward team, which came away with a 198-184 Heart O' North Conference victory on Thursday, Sept. 16, at Nemadji Golf Course.

All four Hayward players that scored broke 50 on the south nine, led by medalist Macey Reier's 42. Superior's Keely Morehouse tied for second with 46.

Brynn Johnson carded a 50 for the Spartans, while Kaylee Baker and Autumn Cooper shot 51.

Solon Springs boys win, girls take second in Hurley

Solon Springs came out on top in a five-team Indianhead Conference cross-country meet Thursday in Hurley.

Dylan Taggart ran an 18:10 to finish second overall and first for the Eagles, who had 21 points to finish 24 ahead of second-place Drummond. Isaac Dickenson (18:56) took fourth, while Tarver Sellwood (19:23, seventh), Ben Fromm (19:30, eighth) and Ben Dickenson (19:32, ninth) all finished in the top 10.

On the girls' side, Solon Springs (49) finished second behind Washburn (32).

Zoe Smith (18:56, fifth) led the Eagles, who also got a sixth-place finish from Nona Thompson (23:49) and a seventh place finish from Peyton Downs (24:08).

Tigers tipped by Ladysmith

Northwestern stopped the slide after a rough start, but winning the third set was not enough in a 3-1 (25-12, 25-9, 23-25, 25-13) Heart O' North loss to Ladysmith on Thursday.

Brynn Hessel led the Tigers with 10 kills and eight digs. Kayla Paulsen added five kills, Abby Wennersten had seven digs and Brinley Tonn dished out 16 assists.

Solon Springs rolls in conference opener

Eight kills from Jori Gehl helped Solon Springs roll to a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-10) sweep of Bayfield in the Eagles' Indianhead Conference opener on Thursday.

Four Eagles recorded aces, with Gehl contributing a team-best five and Isabel Molina adding four.
