The St. Scholastica women’s golf team won its fifth straight UMAC Spring Preview Tuesday at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minnesota, while the Wisconsin-Superior men captured a second straight title.
St. Scholastica senior Hannah Johnson of Two Harbors took women’s medalist honors for the second straight season with a 10-over-par 82 to edge Bethany Lutheran’s Hayley Thompson by a stroke. Teammate Hannah Garcia was fifth with 89 while Anna Lindemann and Olivia Wright were part of a four-way tie for sixth with 92s. Wisconsin-Superior’s top golfer was Maddie Friedman, who finished tied for 13th with St. Scholastica’s Olivia Hanson and Ruby Mohelsky of Moose Lake with 97s.
UWS senior Ryan Peterson earned men’s medalist honors after firing a 3-under-par 69, with his former Duluth East teammate Joey Cummings second with a 71 as the Yellowjackets took the top two spots. St. Scholastica’s Anthony Ahrens (T-6th, 78), Sam Long (7th, 79) and Vinny Billing (T-9th, 80) also cracked the top 10, as did Wisconsin-Superior’s Bryce Wainio (T-9th, 80).
