College golf: CSS, UWS struggle at NCAAs
St. Scholastica will be one of the first teams to tee off today as the Saints sit in last place after Tuesday's opening round of the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston.
The Saints are 25th after shooting a combined 415. UMAC medalist Hannah Johnson, a sophomore from Two Harbors, led the Saints by carding a 22-over-par 94 to put her in a tie for 111th out of 131 golfers.
Bailey Plourde of Centre College is atop the individual leaderboard with a 1-under 71. University of Redlands is atop the team leaderboard at 306.
Only the top 15 teams and top six individuals not from the top-15 teams advance beyond the second round to Thursday's play.
• Wisconsin-Superior is competing in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky., and sit in a tie for 37th after shooting a combined 327 in the first round of the 42-team meet. Olle Sedelius leads the Yellowjackets after shooting a 7-over 79, which puts him tied for 111th out of 216 golfers.
