Former Hermantown High School golfer Taylor Sundbom is tied for second after the opening day of the 113th Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship on Monday at North Oaks Golf Club in North Oaks, Minn.
Sundbom, playing out of Ridgeview Country Club, shot a four-under-par 67. Alex Uloth of Crystal Lake Golf Club blitzed the field with an 8-under 63, with Sundbom tied at four shots back with Michael Schmitz of Bent Creek Golf Club and Erik Christopherson of StoneRidge Golf Club.
Grand Rapids’ native Mike Christensen is tied for sixth with a 2-under 69, while another Hermantown product, Topher Baron, is tied for 16th with a par 71. Christensen and Baron are playing out of Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minn.
The second round begins at 7:30 a.m. today, with the third and final round on Wednesday.
