Courtney George of Duluth grabbed one of three playoff berths earned Wednesday in the USA Curling National Championships at Green Bay.

George and her teammates Aileen Sormunen and Amanda McLean of Duluth and Julia Lilla of Trempeleau, Wis., downed Cristin Clark's rink 9-4 to improve to 7-1, atop the women's standings.

Defending champion Allison Pottinger and Erika Brown also qualified for the playoffs, which begin at 8 p.m. today. George and Pottinger met in the round-robin finale Wednesday night at the Resch Olympic Pavilion.

In the men's competition earlier Wednesday, 2010 national champion Tyler George and two-time Olympian John Shuster, both of Duluth, stayed in playoff contention with victories.

George and his teammates, who include Chris Plys and Colin Hufman of Duluth, beat Ryan Lemke's Wisconsin rink 8-1. Shuster's rink, which includes John Landsteiner of Duluth and Jeff Isaacson of Gilbert, defeated Greg Persinger's Alaska rink 10-2 to move into a four-way tie atop the standings at 5-2.
