GRAND RAPIDS (4-0) AT CLOQUET (3-1)

What: Northeast Red subdistrict game

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Bromberg Field

Outlook: This battle is for control at the top of the district. The Thunderhawks are the lone unbeaten in the eight-team district, having stayed that way with a 28-16 victory at North Branch last week. John Bonner had 117 yards on 11 carries, including a 68-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Quarterback Trent Johnson threw for a touchdown and ran for another. Johnson leads the team in rushing (262 yards) and touchdowns (seven), while throwing for 341 yards and eight scores. Caden Hofstad (24 carries, 252 yards) and Bonner (20-225) lend a hand for a team that has outscored opposition 165-42. Grand Rapids lost 42-18 to Cloquet during a 6-3 season a year ago. … The Lumberjacks dropped a thrilling 31-30 game at Hermantown, a matchup that ended with Cloquet inside the Hawks’ 10-yard line. That snapped Cloquet’s nine-game regular-season win streak. Marshall Hayes (45-300) rushed for 91 yards on 17 carries while two-thirds of the Turnbull triplets, QB Alec and wide receiver Will, connected on three touchdown passes. RB Damian Diver (19-259, 6 TDs) is a breakaway threat, averaging 13.6 yards per carry. Will Turnbull leads in receptions (10), yards (207) and TDs (five). Alec Turnbull has completed 75% of his pass attempts for 404 yards.

DULUTH EAST (3-1) AT PROCTOR (1-3)

What: Northeast Red subdistrict game

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Terry Egerdahl Memorial Field

Outlook: Any more COVID-19 cancellations in the subdistrict could turn this matchup into a best-of-three series. The Greyhounds were scheduled to host North Branch before the Vikings canceled the rest of their regular season, while Proctor had Duluth Denfeld on the schedule until the Hunters bailed while awaiting coronavirus tests. Instead, teams which played a week ago at Ordean Stadium will square off again. East won that meeting, 33-17, led by two touchdowns apiece from running backs Austan Orvedahl and Aaron DeBeir. QB Dean Hudoba tossed two touchdown passes to help East to a 26-0 halftime lead. Orvedahl led the team with 363 yards rushing and seven total TDs heading into that game. Hudoba was completing 61% of his passes and now has seven TD tosses.
