It's that time of year again. The parking lot at Public Schools Stadium spills into the Walgreens and Taco John's lots. Stadium hot dogs are sizzling with flavor. The cool winds that serve as a prelude to fall and winter prompt me to put on my jacket to cover an assignment. It's prep football season.

I love this time of year because it means a return to 10 months of high school sports. From September through June, I can be found on the sideline of a football field, in the gym during a volleyball match or covering a variety of other sports. It's my favorite kind of assignment because you never know what might happen -- it's reality entertainment at its best.

I particularly like this photo because it has a pivotal moment and contrasting emotions. Jimmy Waller put Duluth Denfeld ahead of Hermantown 13-0 late in the second quarter. In the photo, Denfeld's Jordan Verry raises his arms in celebration and Hermantown's Steve Bockovich shows his frustration by putting his hands to his helmet. The Hunters won the game, 14-13.

I look forward to getting back out to Public Schools Stadium for more moments like these -- and two more of those hot dogs.
