Former Minnesota Duluth defenseman Justin Faulk has made the opening-night roster for the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes following final team cuts Wednesday.

Faulk, 19, from South St. Paul played one season with the Bulldogs, in 2010-11, recording eight goals and 25 assists for 33 points in 39 games to lead UMD's defensemen in scoring. He was Carolina's second-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The Hurricanes open Friday at home against Tampa Bay.

Former UMD winger Mike Connolly, who signed a free-agent contract with San Jose in April with a year of eligibility remaining, has been assigned to Worcester, Mass., of the American Hockey League.

Winger Justin Fontaine, a UMD senior last season, is with Minnesota's AHL affiliate in Houston.
