Forbort, Faulk make Junior cut
Defensemen Derek Forbort of Duluth and Justin Faulk of South St. Paul made the cut at the 2011 USA Hockey Junior Evaluation Camp this week in Lake Placid, N.Y., as candidates were cut from 44 to 29 players. Both were part of the 2011 U.S. Junior Championships team.
The American team faces Finland and Sweden during camp competition through Saturday. U.S. head coach Dean Blais is assisted by Minnesota Duluth coach Scott Sandelin.
-- USA Hockey also is conducting a Women's National Festival, which started Wednesday and runs through Aug. 20 at the Super Rink in Blaine, Minn. Former UMD forward Jenny Potter and former UMD assistant coach Julie Chu among the forwards competing, along with defenseman Montana Vichorek of Moose Lake. On the U18 Grey team are Molly Illikainen of Grand Rapids and Dani Cameranesi of Blake (brother of UMD recruit Tony Cameranesi).
Also, UMD women's assistant Laura Schuler is working through Aug. 16 as head coach of Canada's U22 Development Team camp in Rockland, Ontario. UMD forward Jessica Wong is at the camp.
