One of the NFL's most recognizable referees will be in Duluth this weekend to manage a roomful of lawyers.
The Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association is holding its 36th annual meeting in Duluth through Saturday. National Football League referee Ed Hochuli, who also is a lawyer, will be moderating one of the sessions.
The website football-refs.com says Hochuli could be the NFL's most recognized referee: "He is best known for his long dissertation-like explanations when announcing penalties and other calls. ... He is also known for his unusually muscular frame compared to other NFL referees, most notably his biceps."
His likeness appears in the Madden NFL series of video games for the Xbox 360 video-game system.
In Duluth he'll be moderating what the defense lawyers association calls a "fast and furious eight-minute drill," where 10 trial lawyers will be speaking on topics specific to litigation while being closely monitored by Hochuli.

Hochuli is a founding partner in the Phoenix law firm of Jones, Skelton & Hochuli. He practices in personal injury defense, product liability and other areas.
A reception for the association will be held tonight at the Park Point Beach House where the lawyers will be entertained by the music of St. Louis County Attorney Mark Rubin and his son, Tony.
Barnum native Mark Solheim of the St. Paul law firm Larson King is vice president of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and will be taking over the presidency.
The MDLA represents about 900 trial lawyers who have practices limited to the defense of civil claims and lawsuits.
