Outlook: Neither team has had much success at this level -- Esko's lone section titles came in 1955 and 2003, while Mora's lone state tournament appearance was 55 years ago. The Eskomos lost 74-70 to Mora on Jan. 3 -- their only defeat to a Class AA or smaller school -- but have won 15 of their past 16 games, including 51-47 over Virginia in Wednesday's semifinals. Junior Kory Deadrick, the first player in Mike Devney's long coaching career to average a double-double, matched his season average with 24 points in that contest. Deadrick and juniors Casey Staniger (season-average 16 points vs. Virginia) and Marc Peterson have combined to hit more than 200 3-pointers, and all shoot at least 75 percent from the foul line. ... The Mustangs rallied from a double-digit deficit in the first half to beat Deer River 68-55 in the other semifinal. Sam Johnson scored 15 of his 19 points and made four 3-pointers in the second half. Adam Burgess added 14 points. No season scoring information was available.
