Duluth's Zach "Jungle Boy" Walters lost his fight Friday night in Buffalo, N.Y., after his corner called the bout because of bleeding from the boxer's mouth.
Byron Mitchell (27-4-1, 20 knockouts), of Dothan, Ala., stopped Walters (23-4, 18 KOs) after six rounds of the scheduled 12-round NABA-U.S. light heavyweight title bout.
Before the end of the sixth round, Mitchell staggered Walters against the ropes and scored a knockdown. Before the start of the seventh round, Walters' corner and the ring physician agreed that the fighter should not continue because of the bleeding.
Judges' scores at the end of six rounds were 58-55, 59-54 and 58-55 for Mitchell, nicknamed the "Slama from 'Bama."
