Duluth Denfeld had a big showing at Tuesday night’s St. Luke’s Orthopedics & Sports Medicine All-Star Hockey Series at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Cam McClure collected a hat trick for the Duluth team and his Hunters counterpart, Cody Budisalovich, scored once to ignite a 6-1 victory over the Iron Range in the first of a two-game set. The rematch is tonight at the IRA Civic Center in Grand Rapids.
Superior’s Tyler Nystrom and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton’s Koby Bender also scored for the winners in a one-sided affair. All seven goals came in the second period despite a blistering start from Duluth, which peppered Iron Range goalie Isiah Dilley (Hibbing-Chisholm) early. Dilley finished with 24 saves.
On the flip side, Alex Murray (Duluth Marshall) and Gunnar Howg (Duluth East) made seven and three stops, respectively.
