The Duluth Padres rallied with five runs in the ninth inning to beat the Cuyuna Range Miners 11-10 in a nonleague amateur game Saturday at Bulldog Park.

The Duluth Padres rallied with five runs in the ninth inning to beat the Cuyuna Range Miners 11-10 in a nonleague amateur game Saturday at Bulldog Park.

Mike Lewis led Duluth with a game-ending two-run single with two outs in the ninth. Corey Pavlich, Kevin Hendricks, and Nick Moran each two hits for Duluth (3-3). Matt Chruscielski set a team single-game record by scoring five runs. Pavlich earned his first pitching win of the season with one relief inning.

Jason Hite had three hits and scored twice for Cuyuna Range.

  • In a nonleague game Friday in Solon Springs, Wis., the Duluth Xpress defeated the Twin Ports North Stars 19-1. Winning pitcher Brian Houdek allowed one earned run and three hits, and struck out five. Kyle Flagstad lead Duluth with a first-inning grand slam and eight runs batted in. Rejean Carlson and Jon Kusch each added three hits. Duluth led 12-0 after three innings.
