Duluth needs more support for college football

I'm trying to understand this. Last Saturday, and on other Saturdays for that matter, the University of Minnesota Duluth can't seem to fill Malosky Stadium.

I’m trying to understand this. Last Saturday, and on other Saturdays for that matter, the University of Minnesota Duluth can’t seem to fill Malosky Stadium.
But down in tiny Collegeville, Minn., St. John’s University, an NCAA Division III football program, averages 7,500-8,500 fans per game.
UMD is a Division II program, a two-time national champion and while St. John’s had 7,825 fans at its home game last Saturday, UMD only had a paltry 2,129 fans.
Can anybody tell me why a community the size of Duluth can’t match a little tiny town like Collegeville in support?
