Designated hitter Wade Wass of Meridian (Miss.) Community College hit two home runs Friday night as Duluth defeated Mankato 13-5 before a crowd of 1,114 at Wade Stadium for a sixth straight Northwoods League victory.
Duluth (12-5) scored three runs in the first inning and two in the third for a 5-0 lead, and added five in the eighth. Wass finished with five hits in five at-bats, driving in seven runs and scoring four, while third baseman Connor Joe of San Diego added four hits. Every Duluth player had at least one hit and the North Division-leading Huskies had a total of 24.
Winning pitcher Dylan Thomas of Stetson University allowed one earned run and struck out five in 6.2 innings.
Mankato (8-8) had three players with two hits each.
