Duluth East, Virginia compete in boys state tennis tourney

In the Class AA team quarterfinals, unranked East (15-4) faces No. 6-rated Wayzata at noon at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis. No. 6 Virginia, unbeaten this season, meets No. 7 Holy Family Catholic of Victoria, Minn., at noon at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.

The semifinals and finals are Wednesday.

In the Class AA singles tournament, undefeated ninth-grader Dusty Boyer of Forest Lake, Minn. (28-0) opens play at 8 a.m. Thursday, while Duluth East seniors Jake Tideman and Jake Decatur compete in the doubles tournament along with senior Brian Arola and eighth-grader Adam Johnson of Hibbing-Chisholm.

In Class A, Duluth Marshall senior Ethan Lang and sophomore Matt Goldschmidt are in the doubles tournament along with Virginia junior Jordan Krebsbach and sophomore Cody Mauston. In singles is Eveleth-Gilbert senior David Mihm.

Top-ranked Edina is seeking a second straight Class AA team title, while 2008 Class A runner up Rochester Lourdes is ranked No. 3 and Breck is No. 1.
