The Duluth East boys and girls are two-time defending champions in today's Section 7 Nordic ski meet at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
The top-rated East girls have won two straight Minnesota high school team titles and are led by senior Anna Kubek, ranked No. 2 individually. Ely senior Amy Bianco is No. 6.
The Ely boys are ranked No. 6, led by senior Jesse Olson.
Today's schedule for the 10-kilometer pursuit: 5K freestyle, boys at 10 a.m., girls at 11 a.m.; and 5K classical, boys at 1:30 p.m. and girls at 2:30 p.m.
The Duluth Denfeld boys and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls won Lake Superior Conference titles Saturday held in conjunction with the Cook County Invitational at Pincushion Trails in Grand Marais. Duluth Marshall senior Joe Fairbanks was the 10.9-kilometer winner in the boys pursuit in 35 minutes, 5 seconds, followed by Denfeld senior Kai Larsen in 36:40 and Proctor-Hermantown junior Zach Smith in 37:11.7. Denfeld finished with 384 points and Proctor-Hermantown was second with 375.
Cloquet-Esko-Carlton claimed the top three spots in the girls 10.9K pursuit with eighth-graders Erika Fox in 43:17.2 and Anja Maijala in 44:17.6, and senior Molly Meysembourg in 45:19.8.
The CEC girls had 393 points and Proctor-Hermantown was second with 375.
