Ripley, Jablonski win at Muscle Car Shootout

Duluth drag racers Jim Ripley and Jerry Jablonski were victorious at the 24th annual Muscle Car Shootout last weekend at Brainerd International Raceway.

The race was the third and final event in the Muscle Car Series. Tom Jones of Coon Rapids, Minn., beat Ripley in the finals of the Real Street Unlimited class at the first two events, but this time it was Ripley's turn as his 1972 Chevrolet Nova covered the quarter mile in 8.050 seconds at 172.14 mph while Jones had to shut down his 1978 Chevy Malibu partway through.

Jablonski, meanwhile, beat Troy Anderson of Little Canada, Minn., to win the Truck Eliminator class.

Eric Wourms of Grand Rapids (Outlaw), Brian Mahnke of Proctor (King Street), Sue Twaddle of Virginia (Strip Eliminator 3) and Todd Johnson of Cloquet (10.50 Index Class) earned runner-up finishes last weekend.
