Wright’s Jason Line lost to Summit Racing Equipment teammate Greg Anderson of Duluth in the finals of the National Hot Rod Association Pro Stock finale Sunday in Pomona, Calif., but Line still claimed the Pro Stock season points championship over his Northland rival.
Thanks to a quicker reaction time, Anderson beat Line to the finish line by 0.018 seconds despite a slower elapsed time (6.580 to Line’s 6.570) and slower speed (210.24 to 211.43).
But Anderson, who won eight finals this season to give him 86 (second-most in NHRA history) in his career, still ended up three points behind Line. Line, who earned four bonus points for being the fastest qualifier, clinched his third Pro Stock title with a semifinal win over Erica Enders.
“It’s been a great year and thanks to all of our competitors; they kept us honest and made us work hard right to the end,” Line, who also won world titles in 2006 and 2011, said in a news release. “It has been an incredible season and I can’t believe I didn’t actually mess it up. It is such an honor to be up here. We have had a great car all year. Greg and I have had probably the two best cars all year. If it had ended any other way, I would have been disappointed.”
