Somebody mentioned his favorite spot in the world the other day. It’s worth a day trip sometime. Drive up the Gunflint Trail north of Grand Marais. Put a canoe in at Bearskin Lake. Paddle Bearskin, portage into Duncan, paddle Duncan, make part of the portage to Rose Lake. Where the Border Route Trail crosses that portage, hike west a mile or so. You’ll know when you get there. From high atop that ridge, you can see three lakes along the border - Rose, Rat and South. It’s perhaps the most spectacular vista in Minnesota.
