A pair of defensive touchdowns helped Minnesota Duluth claim a 37-19 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over Upper Iowa University Saturday night at Harms-Eischeid Stadium in Fayette, Iowa.
Bulldogs quarterback Drew Bauer scampered 52 yards for the game's opening score before Nathan Zibolski's 48-yard interception return gave UMD a quick 14-0 lead. Bauer later tossed a TD pass and Buma Foncham, a former Duluth East standout, returned an interception 60 yards for the Bulldogs' second defensive score.
Bauer went 15-for-23 for 128 yards and a touchdown pass, while adding 81 rushing yards. Austin Sikorski tallied 86 rushing yards and a touchdown.
No. 7-ranked UMD improves to 2-0 and hosts Mankato State next Saturday at 6 p.m. Upper Iowa fell to 1-1.
