Minnesota Gov.-elect Mark Dayton will drop the first puck at next Thursday's grand opening of Amsoil Arena in Duluth.
Dayton will be joined by Duluth Mayor Don Ness and Minnesota Duluth Chancellor Lynn Black for the ceremonial puck drop at 7 p.m., before the arena's inaugural hockey game between the No. 2-ranked UMD men and North Dakota. Lt. Gov-elect Yvonne Prettner Solon of Duluth also will be at the game; a sellout crowd of more than 6,700 is expected.
Dayton played prep hockey at Blake, and college hockey at Yale.
The News Tribune will have more coverage of Amsoil Arena starting in Monday's paper, and on Thursday look for a special section celebrating the opening of the arena.
