The Team USA women's rink, including Silver Bay's Norma O'Leary, won its first match Saturday at the World Senior Championships, beating Russia 6-3 in Ostersund, Sweden.
U.S. skip Margie Smith of Shoreview, Minn., along with O'Leary, Debbie Dexter of St. Paul and Shelly Kosal of Edgerton, Wis., defeated Tatiana Smirnova's rink.
The Americans play host Sweden at 8 a.m. today.
• Minnesota Duluth student Korey Dropkin and his partner, Sarah Anderson of Minneapolis, won their opening match Saturday at the World Mixed Doubles Championship in Ostersund.
The U.S. duo beat Luxembourg's Karen Wauters and Marco Etienne 14-2 in a match that included a rare six-ender.
