Duluth Curling Club member Joe Polo and his Minneapolis partner, Tabitha Peterson, are in good position to retain their title at the USA Curling Mixed Doubles National Championship.
Polo and Peterson downed the Duluth pairing of Chris Plys and Aileen Geving 9-4 on Friday at Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, Minn., to improve to 3-0 in the Group A round-robin standings. Plys and Geving are 1-2.
Duluth siblings Tyler George and Courtney George share top spot in Group B at 2-1after beating Peter and Maureen Stolt 8-1 and losing 11-2 to DCC member Korey Dropkin and partner Jamie Sinclair.
The pairing of DCC members John Shuster and Cory Christensen fell to 1-2 after losing 7-6 to Matt Birklid and Cristin Clark and again 9-7 to Hibbing's Jared Zezel - Shuster's teammate at the 2014 Winter Olympics - and Vicky Persinger.
Round-robin play continues through this morning, with tiebreakers in the afternoon.
