Cromwell-Wright/Floodwood junior Noah Foster and Duluth Marshall senior Keegan McAuliffe raced to cross country victories at the Virginia Cross Country Invitational on a beautiful 70-degree Wednesday at Virginia Golf Course.

Fourteen schools attended.

Foster covered the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 51 seconds to finish ahead of the likes of the Rock Ridge senior Aaron Nelson (16:53) and Rock Ridge junior Cameron Stocke (17:18), the defending Minnesota Class A track champion in the 1,600, as Rock Ridge cruised past Esko and Denfeld for the boys team title.

Esko senior Nathaniel Rengo (17:41) and Mountain Iron-Buhl senior Jeffrey Kayfes (17:47) rounded out the top five as 132 boys competed.

McAuliffe, meanwhile, won the girls race in 21:08 to edge MIB sophomore twin sisters Kate (21:12) and Liz Nelson (21:17). Esko senior Grace Hrabik (21:21) and Hibbing freshman Gianna Figueroa (21:26) rounded out the top five in a closely contested race with 85 girls competing.
