College softball: St. Scholastica earns split with Macalester

The Saints rallied from six down in the first inning to win the second half of a doubleheader.

SUPERIOR — St. Scholastica’s Aislind Dail hit two home runs and collected five RBIs to give the Saints a 15-7, six-inning win over MIAC opponent Macalester in the second half of a doubleheader Sunday at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The Saints trailed by six after starter Savannah Romero allowed seven hits in the first inning.

CSS responded in the second with an RBI single by Grace Hadlich followed by a three-run shot by Dail.

The Saints took the lead in the second inning with three more runs and would add to their total in every inning but the fourth.

Haley Rosenthal allowed two hits and one unearned run in five innings and got the win for CSS.

In the opener, the Saints offense struggled, managing just one hit in a 10-0, five-inning win for Macalester.

Regan Brodine and Sophie Futchko each had three RBIs for the Scots.

Olivia Howe allowed nine hits and seven runs in the loss for CSS and Heidi Stewart had the lone hit for the Saints.

CSS (13-18, 5-12) will next play at Concordia College in Moorhead at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
