College baseball: Vikings get offensive in NSIC sweep of UMD

Dirksen and Duluth Marshall product Baggs help power Augustana.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Augustana pounded out 22 hits to sweep Minnesota Duluth 14-5 and 9-2 in an NSIC baseball doubleheader Thursday, March 24.

Jordan Barth and Drey Dirksen hit home runs to power the Vikings in the opener while sophomore Jack Puder hit a solo shot for UMD as he finished with two hits, a run and two RBIs.

Dirksen hit his second three-run home run on the day to lead Augustana in the rematch. Duluth Marshall graduate Maddux Baggs led off for the Vikings (14-4-1 overall, 4-1 NSIC) and had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, and starting pitcher Tony Lanier allowed just two hits and struck out eight in 5 1/3 innings to get the win.

Tim Pokornowski of Cloquet had a solo home run to lead UMD (9-9, 3-2), which returns to action with an NSIC doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Concordia-St. Paul.
