Maureen Stormont scored the first goal of Minnesota Duluth's 20th season and Dani Potter added a second-half penalty kick as the Bulldogs held on for a 2-1 nonconference victory over Northern Michigan in a season-opening game Thursday at Malosky Stadium.
Stormont, a junior forward, scored in the ninth minute to move into the top 10 among all-time career scorers at UMD with 51 points. Her 22nd career goal also puts her alone in eighth place.
After Potter's penalty kick, the Wildcats pulled within one goal in the 76th minute on an Ashley Katers goal.
UMD sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Rosa made two saves.
