College women's hockey: UMD loses conference opener

Ohio State goaltender Kassidy Sauve showed why she was selected WCHA Preseason Player of the Year as she stopped all 35 Minnesota Duluth shots in a 2-0 victory Friday night in the Bulldogs' conference opener at Columbus, Ohio.

Ohio State goaltender Kassidy Sauve showed why she was selected WCHA Preseason Player of the Year as she stopped all 35 Minnesota Duluth shots in a 2-0 victory Friday night in the Bulldogs' conference opener at Columbus, Ohio.

Sauve made 13 saves in a scoreless second period and another 16 in the third period.

Maddy Field opened the scoring with her third goal of the season on a power play 15 minutes into the game. That lead stood until Julianna Iafallo, the younger sister of former UMD men's All-American Alex Iafallo, scored with 3:58 left in the third period to give the Buckeyes (4-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 WCHA) a two-goal lead.

UMD senior goalie Jessica Convery totaled 16 saves for UMD (2-3, 0-1).
