UMD update: The Bulldogs are returning to action after taking three weeks off over the holidays. They are playing at home at Amsoil Arena for the first time since hosting Minnesota State-Mankato on Nov. 17-18. Assistant coach Laura Bellamy will serve as head coach of UMD this weekend and next while head coach Maura Crowell serves as the associate head coach of Team USA at the Under-18 Women’s World Championship in Russia. Also missing for this weekend’s exhibitions are freshman forward Ashton Bell and senior defenseman Jessica Healey, who are playing for the Canadian National Women’s Development Team at the 2018 Nations Cup in Germany. Both will be back next week when UMD returns to WCHA play to host Bemidji State.

South Korea update: The Korean National Team is coached by former Bulldog Sarah Murray, who played at UMD from 2006-10, winning two national championships in 2008 and 2010. The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games will be Korea’s first Olympics. This is Korea’s second trip to the U.S. for exhibition games against NCAA teams. In September, Korea went 0-5 against WCHA teams and lost 3-0 at Minnesota State on Tuesday.

Whitecaps update: Saturday will be the second of three games between the Bulldogs and Whitecaps this season at Amsoil Arena. UMD won the first meeting 4-1 behind goals by Michelle Lowenhielm, Ryleigh Houston, Lynn Astrup and Healey. The Whitecaps, an elite senior women’s team, are 0-5 thus far against WCHA teams this season.

Quote: “To play Team Korea is pretty cool before they go to the Olympics, with Sarah Murray as their head coach, who won the national championships here. That’s pretty neat.” - Bellamy
